Move review: The Day I Learned to Live

“If everyone were aware of their value, the world would be completely different.”

Another article from the series of reviews. Once again, with Laurent Gounelle in the main role with his book “The Day I Learned to Live”. This book popped up on me on Instagram multiple times, where different bloggers recommended it. As I was captivated by its summary, I decided to order one. It’s said that we shouldn’t judge the book by its cover; however, I have to say that this book was love at first touch. But let’s get back to the main aim of this article…

A few words about the book:

What would you do if someone told you that you will die soon? Tough question, right? This is exactly the situation the main hero, Johnathan, had to cope with. The storyline is focused on the unexpected turnover of events and a complete transformation of the personality. Indeed, the whole book is a very good indicator of today’s divided society. The author connects destinies of multiple people of different opinions and life views. Through their actions, he shows how diverse the life is and how small the world is.

Review:

I have to say that I was really excited about reading this book. In fact, it didn’t disappoint me at all. Laurent Gounelle is excellent in incorporating thoughts in daily problems of characters. Why is this work so similar to the previous book (The Man Who Wanted to be Happy)? Because the author uses a lot of dialogues and descriptions throughout the entire book, which contain the key ideas. As already mentioned, the plot is about life stories of multiple people, which may have a two-sided effect – either it will keep your interest and you’ll want to know what’s going to happen next, or it will turn into a boring chaos. Even if the latter happens, I would only recommend - continue reading! At the end, the book forces you to think about all unpredictable things that may happen in your life and about the values, which people have.

This book could be compared to life. Sometimes everything’s clear and sometimes you need explanations. The world is small, and people are unbelievably connected. What’s more, many times, those that pretend to be normal are the bad ones. On the other hand, those that act like crazy are mostly the most normal people you can imagine. That is why if you ever meet a similar “fool” to the main character in this book, don’t give him a weird look, just receive what he has to offer and spread the energy further.
