Move: Crazy foreign mind

Here’s to everyone,

who’s afraid of the unknown.

Just jump into it!

The good will come with it.

It is said that when you leave your homeland and live abroad, you’ll become some kind of a weirdo. It’s a bit hard for me to say as I have always been weird. However, it’s true that once you try living in another country for a longer time, something will change in the way you think.

Why are we weirdos?

Have you ever realised how our thoughts and thoughts of our relatives are driven by fear? I can’t even count how many times I was asked if I’m not afraid of anything that I’m planning on doing. A simple phrase like this has a huge power to turn around all your thoughts and opinions. Aren’t you afraid of moving to another country, of going to a new school, of talking to strangers, joining them, getting out of the train in a city you don’t know? Aren’t you afraid of travelling like this alone…Of course I am, the same way everyone else is. However, there’s one main difference - the more you travel, the more you find out that the world isn’t as wicked as it may seem to be. There’s still more good than bad. By that, I don’t mean that you should trust everyone, who’s nice to you. Though, it’s worth giving people a chance. And who knows, maybe you’ll find 3 truly amazing people on your journey in the train (inside joke: it all can start with a simple offer of a tomato 🙃).

What else is different?

It’s much harder to be surprised by anything. Moreover, changes become part of your life. Many times, when I go down the street, I see people staring and throwing comments at something that is completely normal (at least for me). On the other hand, I feel like my perceivance of “weird” shifted. Even though it may also be because of my personality and believe it or not, I’ve seen too much in my life. When I asked my friends, what has changed for them, almost everyone said that whatever is inside of you, it’ll come out. You’ll kind of find yourself in a way you'd never expect. What is more, you’ll realise that people are much more alike than you thought. Even with all the differences.

I know it’s pretty hard to change your attitude towards life from one day to another. But it’s ok. I’d still recommend this experience to everyone. The experience of living abroad. Maybe you’ll have a different experience and maybe you’ll join the weirdos club, too.
